The Kaizen board promotes the philosophy of continual improvement in an organisation. It recognises that nobody is perfect at their work in an organisation, which means there are always areas for improvement. First, however, you must identify the problems before suitable solutions can get implemented.
The Kaizen board uses four distinct principles known as the “four corners” to achieve this goal. They are as follows:
- Visualize Your Ideas
- Create a “To Do” List
- Make the Improvements
- Analyze the Results
Each principle serves a particular purpose in improving a company’s daily tasks and operations.
Visualize Your Ideas
The first principle is to brainstorm and visualise ideas for continuous improvement. Write down all the problems and issues facing your organisation on the first corner of the Kaizen board, such as old equipment, high absenteeism, poor time efficiency, etc. Then you will have a clear illustration of what needs to be improved.
Create a “To Do” List
Use the second corner of the Kaizen board to create a list of tasks for remedying the problems outlined in the first corner. These could include replacing old equipment and offering wellness incentives to employees.
Make the Improvements
The third corner outlines the improvements which are actively being made in real-time. Then workers can see the current progress toward the efforts to improve the organisation.
Analyze the Results
The fourth corner lists all the improvements made. You can use this list to analyze the results of the improvements and how they have changed the organisation for the better.
