On 24th March, we welcomed Kate Kniveton MP, member of parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter. She met our managing director Nik Hardy and our workshop operative, Harry Rodger, who has been working with Hardy Signs since October 2022.

Harry was recruited at Kate Kniveton’s annual Burton and Uttoxeter Jobs fair in September. The event is widely attended with free entry, CV and interview workshops, and free transport between Burton and Uttoxeter. Kate mentioned that over 100 job seekers, including our Harry Rodger, left the event with pending interviews. Kate has been a friend and customer of Hardy Signs for a long time, regularly expressing her support.

Kate commented, “It was a real joy to meet Harry at Hardy Signs today and hear all about the opportunities that have opened up to him following attending my jobs fair last autumn. The jobs fair had a real buzz, and I know those that attended found it a worthwhile experience. Harry is a real success story of this event and goes to show what a valuable opportunity it can be”.

“Planning is already underway for this year’s jobs fair, and I am keen to hear from any local businesses that might wish to be involved. Well done to Harry, and I wish him every success in the future!”

Harry already knew that he wanted to work at Hardy Signs, but being his first job, he was slightly apprehensive. He heard we were exhibiting at the Burton and Uttoxeter Jobs fair and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get more information and hand in his CV.

We spoke to 23 different people, both experienced and junior. Harry was the only successful candidate of the day. He has continued thriving on his Hardy Signs journey since last October. He has worked on several high-profile jobs, including wrapping 13 Mercedes Sprinter Minibuses for West Midlands Bus on Demand and wrapping various vehicles for McFeaze, quantity surveyors, Wilshees waste management, and many more.

Harry stated, “I’m immensely grateful for the opportunity to work at Hardy Signs. Living in Burton, I’ve always been aware of the company, as you see the name everywhere, but I didn’t imagine I’d ever be working full-time for such a well-known and respected place. I would wholly recommend to others in future that they attend the jobs fair to see what job opportunities might be open to them”.

Managing Director and Founder of Hardy Signs, Nik Hardy, said:

“We were very pleased to take part in Kate’s Jobs Fair last year and were glad about how the event went and the level of interest we received. Harry has been a great addition to our team here at Hardy Signs and has learned and developed a wide range of skills since starting. We look forward to taking part in this year’s Jobs Fair and hope to see many others there too.”

At Hardy Signs, we regularly exhibit at careers fairs across Burton to attract local talent just stepping into the working world. We pride ourselves on being a nationwide company, but our roots will always be in Burton.
