A long-running charity in Burton that brings joy to thousands of children every year returns with Hardy Signs as main sponsor. Dereks Tree, led by pensioner Derek Liddle has got over 3500 youngsters from across the area in need of some extra magic this Christmas.

Based in Coopers Square shopping centre, the project sees a number of volunteers dedicate their time to ensuring vulnerable children across the region enjoy Christmas this year.

Charities from the area have submitted lists of disadvantaged children along with which gifts they would like to receive.

Their first name, age and their preferred gifts have been printed on cardboard gift tags, which are hung on a tree in the shopping centre. All the gift tags are designed by Hardy Signs creative team and printed by Parker & Son printers Ltd.

In 2017 every single child received a present, with £60,000 worth of gifts handed out. Eventually, Derek Liddle was crowned ”volunteer of the year” at the Burton Mail Heroes Awards this summer.

Derek’s Tree was launched in 1995 in Derek’s living room.

Our team has been involved in designing and supplying Christmas cards, gift tags and signs, as well as championing the project through their social media channels.

Nik Hardy said: “We have been good friends with Derek for many years and have long admired the work carried out by the charity.

“Having supported the cause in the past, we are delighted that we can offer further support in 2018 and help those less fortunate at Christmas time.“

Reacting to the new sponsors, Derek said: “I’ve known Nik Hardy for 24 years, the same age as the tree.

“They’ve always given their support and help to the project and this year he has become our main sponsor. It’s absolutely fantastic.”
