› A bit of history:

Vehicle Wrapping is an outdoor signage solution that has been existing since before the 1970s, however, it was 1993 that saw the major breakthrough in Silicon Valley.

SuperGraphics Inc, a pioneer company in digital imaging, wrapped an entire bus with a new vinyl adhesive product introduced by the 3M Company. It was Coca-Cola’s rivals Pepsi that turned the bus into a huge rolling Pepsi advert which gained a lot of popularity.

As you may imagine, in comparison to the average city buses, customers valued this innovation much more. Advertisers were quick to jump into this innovation, too.

Soon after, heavy machinery owners began covering their fleets with full-color images with information about the services and products that the company offered.

At the beginning of the new millennium, a new trend began spreading amongst private vehicle owners. Many websites started offering free cars or even monthly payments in exchange for allowing their vehicles to be wrapped with advertisers’ message and logo. Advertisers also offered direct sales through coupon distribution and other offline promotional strategies.

This technique is known as mobile vehicle advertisement and vehicles are usually equipped with GPS. The GPS then provides detailed vehicle tracking information, which helps to measure the success of the advertising campaign.

› Why Vehicle Wrapping?

Branding stays on a vehicle 24/7 for a very long time if you apply high-quality vinyl.

Your organisation’s fleet suddenly turns into a powerful tool that reinforces brand awareness and makes customers aware of your services, products, location, area of service, website, contact numbers, any offers, etc.

Let’s imagine for a minute that you are a company that manufactures and sells furniture, located in Nottingham. Your company delivers the furniture to the customer, too.

Nottingham’s population is estimated to be 332,900. So, there is a potential that over 300,000 people will see your mobile advert everywhere in the city. Below we will discuss the financial benefits.

› What are the benefits of vehicle branding

There are many benefits to Vehicle Branding and we will list a few of them below:

  1. First Impression

Internet is full of articles about first impressions.

But let’s imagine that you are a small furniture manufacturing business based in a small town near Nottingham and you’re having to do a delivery in Nottingham.

A creative and professional branding would enhance the chances of creating a great first impression in a bigger area that may already have established furniture manufacturers.

As a result, this may increase the number of purchases from that area, too.

  1. Friendly Advertising

Unlike other tools of online or offline marketing, such as radios or social media ads, vehicle graphics generate attention without causing a disturbance. Your fleet’s message can be easily spotted without significant distraction. Smart messaging will make potential customers remember your brand…and potentially make them chuckle.

  1. Reach Wider Audience

Remember the example above of Nottingham, located in the East Midlands. Regardless of how many vehicles your fleet has got, if they travel all over Nottingham, you could potentially reach over 300,000 viewers per month – all of which may need your unique furniture or your beautiful flowers if you are a florist, etc.

  1. Protect your Vehicle

Whether you are a small, medium, or large business, you don’t want to pay extra at the end of the lease. Customized Vehicle Wraps offer a form of protection for your vehicle against scratches and small dents. Our team of highly trained vinyl installers can also assist with removing the existing vinyl.

  1. Local advertising

Ranking your website locally online can be as tough as the battles in Game of Thrones, where usually the most powerful companies win.

Contrary, vehicle wrapping campaigns would place you and the competitors as equals on the road. And if you’re also involved with the local community, you’ll produce outstanding results, regardless of how big the competition is.

  1. Cost-Effective

Other online and offline campaigns such as social media campaigns or a billboard will consist of reoccurring costs for as long as you advertise. On the other hand, vehicle livery can be changed as many times as you wish, for a lot less money. Your initial investment is very likely to generate results for years.

› What’s the process?

The Process is simple. It consists of 6 steps.

  1. Make the decision to get your fleet branded.
  2. Brainstorm what you’d like to advertise.
  3. Create and Agree the Designs that you’re happy with.

Our creative team can help with brainstorming and creating artwork from scratch. See more: https://hardysigns.co.uk/products-services/our-services/design-service/

  1. Find a trusted supplier.
  2. The signage company will get your fleet branded within a few days or weeks, depending on the scale of the project. (we will discuss timelines below)

  1. Start marketing

Our marketing team will produce a video of the full wrapping process, which you can use for your marketing purposes.

› How long does it take to wrap a vehicle?

→ Applying graphics would take 1 to 2 days, depending on the size of the vehicle.

Our designers would normally prepare and proof the design before the vehicle arrives at our workshop. Digital Printers will print and cut graphics in real-time and the installers can start their work as soon as the vehicle is with us.

Often vehicles are dropped at the beginning or at the end of the day. It is recommended that the vehicle is kept in a dry, temperature-controlled environment for at least 12 hours. It is also vital that the vehicle is cleaned before the application of the graphics.

→ Full wrapping would take 2-4 days. The process is similar to the above, however, our team here has got a bit more work to do with your vehicles.

We ensure that the vehicle is clean and dry. We maintain an optimal temperature in the workshop overnight in order to ensure that the surface of the vehicle is ready for application.

Our professional installers check that the graphics are the exact size as in the brief, work out the positions of the graphics and carry on the installation.

› How much does it cost?

The keyword here depends. Prices start from a minimum of £100 and can go up to £10000. Small vehicle graphics projects are usually affordable for any organisations. The highest prices usually consist of the application of high-quality vinyl on promotional buses.

One of our high-profile bus promotion projects is the application of 85m2 vinyl overnight. The project was completed in 6 hours and it was ready for the big 25,000 people celebration on the same day.

The bus came back the next day to be unwrapped and prepared to be used for other occasions.

› How long can vinyl resist?

High-quality material and application can resist for up to 10 years. However, we suggest refreshing it every 3-5 years, in order to keep your branding up to date.

Referring to the Nottingham and furniture manufacturer example at the beginning. If your business grows over the years and your branding doesn’t represent your company anymore, you can partially change the vinyl or go for a full new wrap.

This depends on your budget and marketing strategy.

» Conclusion

Vehicle Wrapping can be one of your key marketing tools to attract clients locally and nationally. Advertising on your vehicle doesn’t just bring new customers. It can also serve to maintain current customers. Vehicle branding can reach people when they least expect it and can increase brand awareness. Although it is difficult to measure it, your team can practise asking new customers as to where they saw the brand first.

We’ve been completing vehicle graphic projects since 1993. Since we started applications have developed from hand painting to very high-quality digitally printed vinyl that matches a design brief to 100%.
