The Ninety Year Heritage Behind Furniture Store’s New Signage

A Derby city-centre store, first opened by two brothers in 1928, has recently relaunched it’s brand with new signage at their Babington Lane premises.

As part of their 90 year celebrations, Hunters Furniture, called in Burton on Trent firm, Hardy Signs Ltd, to offer their expertise in delivering a new signage scheme for the exterior of the 27,000 square foot showroom.

Hunters strive to provide the very best in quality and service, and is proud to still be an independent family-run business and Derby’s longest established furnishing store.

“The heritage is very important to the store and a huge factor in choosing materials and design for the new signage” explained Nina Sheard, Director.

We wanted to acknowledge how the store would have looked in the ‘30s and ‘40s whilst adding some modern elements to compliment the image”. “Hardy Signs is proud to have been a supplier to Hunters of Derby for more than decade” explained Tom Hardy, Operations Director. “As part of the project, we also completed the necessary planning applications for the new signage and illumination on the client’s behalf”.

The new scheme incorporates a traditional wooden fascia with decorative trim – painted to the corporate colours. The name ‘Hunters’ is highlighted in custom-fabricated 3D letters which house an LED lighting system. The LED lights cast a soft white light back on to the painted wooden fascia to create a stylish ‘halo’ effect. In total there are four individual logos positioned along the fascia, which spans over 100 square metres, beginning on Babington Lane and continuing around on to Gower Street.

In addition to the fascia, the award winning signage company supplied and installed way-finding signage within the store – utilising the new brand colours and styles. “We wanted the image of our store to reflect the quality of the furniture we sell and the materials they are made from” continued Nina Sheard. “We’ve already had great feedback from both established and new customers alike… we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Hardy Signs.”
