In January 2019, we started working with Keele University’s Research and Innovation Support Programme (KRISP) into Lean Manufacturing and particularly the utilisation of Digital Signage in the manufacturing environment.

A comprehensive report offers insight into the history of lean manufacturing, development of digital lean, how-to engage workers, agile manufacturing, etc. It also analysis the lean manufacturing products that Hardy Signs offers and highlights new areas that the company can develop to help manufacturing companies develop their own processes.

Hindu Hussein, was selected in the Manufacturing Analyst role after impressing in her interview. Senior lecturer Dr. Colin Rigby at Keele Business School helped to develop the initial ideas of Hardy Signs and supervised Hindu during her research.

Hindu presented the report at Hardy Signs’ HQ in Burton Upon Trent in the presence of Emma Bonfiglio, Dr. Colin Rigby from Keele, and Nik Hardy (MD of Hardy Signs Ltd) and Daniel Nikolla.

Emma Bonfiglio, Innovation Advisor at Keele University, said: ”It has been a pleasure working with Hardy Signs on this project and it was really great to see what Hindu and Colin have achieved in a short amount of time.  I am confident the company will be able to make great use of the findings in the report and I hope this is just the beginning of the relationship between Hardy Signs and Keele University”.

The report was fully funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which underpins the Keele Research and Innovation Support Programme (KRISP)*.  The KRISP programme has been designed to support businesses who are thinking about developing new products, services or processes by providing academic and business advisors alongside students or graduates who work within the company as Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) Associates. Hardy Signs utilised KRISP to develop its Lean Manufacturing provision.

Daniel Nikolla, project lead from Hardy Signs, said: ”This report is a valuable tool for Hardy Signs, thus we’ve already started acting on the recommendations made. As the report outlines, there’s a huge chance for Hardy Signs to further develop our digital signage provision. We’re delighted to have worked with the fantastic team of Keele University in this project. This is hopefully the first step into developing a bigger partnership.”

A second stage of the project is currently being discussed. Should you want to have access to the report, please contact marketing@hardysigns.co.uk.
