On December 1st, Burton on Trent welcomed the return of Small Business Saturday with the first Winter Festival (Peoples Business Awards) taking place in the Market Hall and market place in the town.

The annual day of celebration saw shoppers encouraged to make a special effort to support independent, small & local businesses – whilst enjoying live music and market stalls packed full of crafts, food, toys, books and jewellery.

The Peoples Business Awards,  received nearly 400 nominations this year. They were sponsored by Chameleon School of Construction and handcrafted by local artist Anna Roebuck, who owns The Making House, in Winshill.

Hardy Signs were named as ‘B2B Business of the Year’ winners during the event this weekend.

On receiving the accolade for ‘People’s Business of the Year’, Managing Director, Nik Hardy said: ‘’We’re delighted to win the B2B Business of the Year Award! Celebrating 25 years in business in 2018, the community of Burton upon Trent and our nationwide client base have been at the heart of what we do at Hardy Signs.

There have been many firsts this year; We’ve held our first charity golf day & took part in this year’s annual Sleepout to raise funds for the YMCA and we’ve landed our first major International project in BrusselsWe would like to thank the Burton Small Business team and Staffordshire County Council for this award!’’ a perfect way to conclude an iconic year!’’

Press Coffee was selected as the B2C Business of the Year winners while Lifestyle Hair and Else Solicitors were the runners up for respectively the B2C and B2B categories.

The Winter Festival was organised by Burton Small Business and East Staffordshire Borough Council to mark Small Business Saturday and encourage shoppers to think local this Christmas. It saw scores of independent craft, food, jewellery and specialist businesses come together with a variety of entertainment activities throughout the day.

Staffordshire County Council supported Burton Small Business in the organisation of the People’s Business Awards. Mayor of East Staffordshire, Councillor Chris Smith, who was on the judging panel said: ”The nominations and the nominees were of a very high standard, which made the judging somewhat difficult. They were all worthy causes in their own right.”

Burton Small Business is made up of three independent businesses copywriter Elaine Pritchard, of Caittom Publishing, journalist Cheryl Morris, of Creative Word PR and award-winning animator Tilley Brancroft of Red Door Studios.
