As part of their continued 25 year celebrations, Burton-based sign firm Hardy Signs brought together business colleagues and friends from more than 20 organisations for their very first Charity Golf Day on Friday 21st September.

A rainy start to the day did not deter the keen golfers as they met at Drayton Park Golf Club, Tamworth for registration and breakfast rolls. Earlier this year, a business partnership between Drayton Park and Hardy Signs was announced, with a plan to incorporate new signage across the site over the next two years.

As the weather improved, MD Nik Hardy and his team were first to tee-off from the Hardy Signs sponsored 1st Hole – with ten teams taking part across the course. “We were delighted to welcome all the participants to our golf day to compete at a wonderful venue in Drayton Park Golf Club” commented Nik Hardy.

“It’s great to think that while competing in the event and enjoying the day – we’re also raising much needed funds for two worthy causes”. Having completed their 18 holes, the players were invited to enjoy a 3-course meal in the club house later that evening.

Nik Hardy welcomed both Paul Laffey of Burton YMCA and Mark Gray of the O’Connor Gateway Trust, who spoke about their charities – having been nominated as beneficiaries for the funds raised.

Also during the evening, diners took part in an entertaining game of ‘Play your Cards Right’ and a prize raffle and auction was held to help raise yet more funds for the charities. Prizes were donated by companies across the town including Leicester City FC tickets, Champagne and a signed Burton Albion FC football. The evening was concluded with the awards presentation where trophies and prizes were distributed.

The ‘Longest Drive’ accolade was taken by Tim Lowe of the Erskine Murray Insurance team while the ‘Nearest the Pin’ challenge was achieved by Richard Wileman of Fleet Alliance.

The overall competition for the day’s golf saw the team from Davies and Scothorn and Else Solicitors take second place with the team from Darley Limited of Burton taking home the prize for top spot.

“The trophy will take pride of place in our reception” added Stewart Hughes, Darley Ltd Managing Director. “Thanks again to Nik and team and we hopefully look forward to defending the trophy next year!” Following the success of the day, Hardy Signs were delighted to announce that a grand total of £1200 was raised and will be divided between the charities.

“We’d like to thank all those who helped to organise and those who took part in making the event such a success” concluded Nik Hardy.
