Best of Burton pit their brains to raise funds for three charities.

Building on its success from last December, Burton and District Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Charity Quiz, is supporting three worthy causes for 2017 through the event being held on Tuesday 12 December, at Pirelli Stadium.

The quiz in aid of Burton YMCA, Newlife and Prostate Cancer UK, is being organised by David Alexander, of Alexander Accountancy in Burton. Through his company, David has been organising a regular annual series of business meetings and events. And, last year refreshed the concept of this quiz night, originally launched three years.

“A total of £3,000 was raised by the 24 teams of 4 who took part last December”, said David Alexander. “We attracted teams from right across Burton; and as far away as Nuneaton in the case of family team Janet and Joe Collins, who appeared under the name of ‘Relatively Simple’. “The winning team were called Connect 4, appropriately comprised of trustees from Burton YMCA”. The established formula with rounds of traditional and the more obscure subjects has been retained, with challenging questions being set by Richard Lloyd, of CMC Partners. The quiz kicks off with a sponsored true or false warm-up round, to get the contestants prepared for the more difficult questions.

“Last Decembers’ quiz showed just how much, or how little, we knew,” said Nik Hardy of Hardy Signs, one this year’s sponsors. “Okay, we were great with the history of Burton and the Albion, but less successful with questions on astronomy. Marking other team’s answers made sure that we learnt more about those little-known subjects.  It was a great night, and we were delighted to contribute”.

Local businesses are invited to join the other 21 teams already signed up for Chamber Quiz night on Tuesday 12 December at Pirelli Stadium which starts at 6.00 pm for 6.30pm; with tables of 6 costing £120; and includes a hot fork style Christmas themed meal. Richard Lloyd will again be acting as Master of Ceremonies. There will be prizes winning team and last placed team (the latter getting a prize suitable for their placing).

There will be an auction and a raffle during the evening to which individuals and businesses are now being invited to donate prizes. “We are aiming to beat last year’s figure. With the help of local business, we expect to raise more than £5,000 to share amongst the three charities”, said Chris Plant, Director at the Burton and District Chamber. They are each very important to different parts of our Burton communities, playing key roles in providing support, advice and encouragement.

“Christmas is just the perfect time of the year to be giving them help with their financial resources to continue their important work”.
